Elizabeth (Ella) Scott Macdonald Maxwell, age 103, passed away peacefully on February 26 in Beachwood, Ohio.
She was born on the Isle of Mull, Scotland, raised in Ottawa, Canada and was a longtime former resident of Smithfield, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Christina (Black) Macdonald.
Throughout her life, she possessed a zest for learning and was an avid reader. She was an active member of the community, starting Girl Scout Troop 106, serving in the Presbyterian Church, working as village Clerk Treasurer in the late 1970s, researching village history with the Historical Society among other endeavors.
In her latter years, she bided her time doing art, sudoku, puzzles, and watching movies. She loved keeping in touch with her Scottish and Canadian relatives.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, James Maxwell, a brother, William, and sisters, Mary, Marjorie, and Margaret.
She was the loving and devoted mother of, Christina Wallace of Toronto, Canada and Margaret ‘Peggy’ (Douglas Richey) of Pepper Pike, Ohio and they will dearly miss her. She was a friend to many who won’t forget her tenacity, charm, and grace.
Plans are being made for a memorial service in the Spring. Her arrangements are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield, Ohio. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve (Northeast Ohio) or Hounds Haven (Dillonvale, OH), an animal rescue where she had found her sweet kitty, Whiskers. www.jefosterfh.com
