Fred N. Matyas, 89, of Toronto, OH, passed away Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at his home.
Fred was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Toronto, son of the late George N. and Beatrice (Woods) Matyas.
He was the owner and operator of Gunner’s Haven at his home in Toronto. Fred previously worked for the State of Ohio Highway Dept. and sold insurance for National General. He was a 1952 graduate of Toronto High School and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Toronto.
Fred’s favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. He had a love for all things outdoors and he was most proud of passing down his love and knowledge to his kids and grandkids.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas Matyas, sister, Dorothy ‘Dot’, and a brother, George P. Matyas.
Fred leaves behind his wife, Doris E. (Gieseler) Matyas; two sons, Steve (Jennifer) Matyas, and Jeff (Jennifer) Matyas, both of Toronto; brother, Mike (Grenda) Matyas of N. Canton, OH; five grandchildren, Brendan and Ryan Matyas, Megan (Justin) Russell, Sydney Matyas, and Tiffany (Buster) Bowman; five great-grandchildren, Sophie and Bo Bowman, Kayden, Kruze, and Kenleigh Russell; special neighbors Amy and Chris Barcus, and his two dogs, Katie and Jack.
