Fredrick Abdalla Obituary

Fredrick J. Abdalla passed away on Feb 21, 2022, surrounded by his family.  He was a lifelong resident of Stratton, OH and distinctively served as the Sheriff of Jefferson County for over 37 yrs.  

 

He was a decorated US Army veteran having honorably served two years in Vietnam in the 1960’s.  He graduated from Catholic Central High School in Steubenville and attended The Ohio State University as well as the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. 

 

He was involved with countless civic and nonprofit organizations and was always looking out for the underprivileged as well as being a strong advocate of those who suffered from neglect and abuse, especially the children and the elderly of the county.  He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Toronto, OH.  

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine (Hayek) Abdalla, brothers John and Samuel Abdalla and sisters Genevieve and Joanne Abdalla.  

 

He is survived by his wife, Edna (Russell) Abdalla, his four children, Monica (Michael) Potenzini, Jenifer (John) Ford, Fred Jr. (Jo Ann) Abdalla and David (Marci) Wojtas as well as 12 grandchildren, Jordan and Kameron Abdalla, Luke, Seth and Rhette Potenzini, Makenna, Marissa and Madelaina Ford, Marco Orecchio, Jace Wojtas, Sadie Wright and Ryder Unkefer.  He also is survived by a brother, Edward (Ralph) Abdalla, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones.  He also leaves behind a dedicated and loyal staff at the Sheriff’s Department.  

 

A public visitation will be held on Friday, Feb 25th from 1 pm to 7 pm at St Joseph Catholic Church 1225 N. River Ave. in Toronto, OH. The funeral mass and the burial in the Sugar Grove Cemetery are both private.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be directed to: The Village of Stratton Volunteer Fire Department (PO Box 145 Stratton, OH 43961) in honor of all their services that have benefitted the residents of Stratton, The Urban Mission of Steubenville 311 N Sixth St. Steubenville, OH 43952, or Valley Hospice 10686 SR 150 Rayland, OH 43943.
