John Porter Obituary

John Lee Porter, 68, of Toronto, OH, passed away Thursday July 16, 2020, in the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.

 

John was born June 26, 1952 in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Lawrence and Roberta (Miskelly) Porter.

 

He was retired from the First Energy Corp., Sammis Plant in Stratton, OH, where he worked as an operator.

 

John was a 1972 graduate of Toronto High School, retired member of the Toronto Vol. Fire Dept., 40 year member of the Toronto Masonic Lodge #583 F&AM, Scottish Rite of Steubenville, Aladdin Shrine of Columbus, OH, Steubenville Shrine Club and the Toronto Eagles #1276.

 

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Zoie Nicole Porter, Feb. 23, 1997; two brothers-in-law, John Dunlap and Tim Hughes.

 

Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Sally L. (Hughes) Porter, whom he married May 20, 1972; his daughter, Heather (Anthony) Branch of Wheeling, WV; his son, John Robert ‘Robby’ Porter of Toronto; three brothers, Robert (Claudia) Porter of Newnan, GA, Lawrence ‘Larry’ (Jackie) Porter of Empire, OH and William (Kristine) Porter of Wintersville, OH; his sister, Pamela (Porter) Dunlap of Toronto and his sister-in-law, Joelle Hughes of Vancouver, WA.

 

Also surviving are John’s four grandchildren: Autumn Stabile, John Tyler Porter, Joseph Porter and A.J. Branch; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Hunter and Ava Yost and many loved nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation will be held Sunday July 19, 2020 from 1 PM to 5 PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, where his Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM. Pastor Susan Clegg will officiate and burial will follow in Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto.

 

Masonic Services will take place Sunday at 5 PM at the funeral home.
