Karen L. Thompson, 82, of Toronto, OH, passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
Karen was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Steubenville, OH, daughter of the late Clarence and Dorothy (Brown) Saner.
She was a graduate of Toronto High School, and later became a Librarian for Toronto City Schools, retiring with over 30 years of service. Karen was also a former secretary for the Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Club and a former nurse’s aide at the Ohio Valley Hospital.
Karen’s memberships included the Toronto First Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder, Deacon, member of Session and the choir, life-member of the Toronto High School Alumni Assoc., and the River’s Edge Garden Club.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan Phillips, brother John Saner, close friend Patricia ‘Tish’ Rasor, and her beloved dog Mia Sophia.
Karen leaves behind two daughters, Kelly (Howard) Powell and Beth (Jim) Cooper both of Toronto; three grandchildren, Dana (Josh) Troski, Travis (Shelby) Cooper, and Brianna Cooper; two great-grandchildren, Quinn and Logan Troski; brothers, Harold Saner of Las Vegas, NV and Jim (Gail) Saner of Toronto; sister-in-law, Janet Saner also of Toronto; two best friends, Janet Clore and Merrie Lynne Zeigler, and several nieces and nephews.
Karen was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt and will be deeply missed. Her memory will continue to inspire and comfort her family for generations to come.
Karen’s family would like to thank Dr. Christoper Cowher, the Fifth Floor IMC at Weirton Medical Center and Valley Hospice for all their care and compassion.
Visitation for Karen will be held Wednesday from 3 pm to 7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home where her funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 am. Rev. Jane Schockey will officiate and burial will be held at the convenience of her family.
