Mary Kertoy Obituary

 

Pauline Marie (Mary) Kertoy, 93, of Bradley, OH, died Thursday afternoon January 16, 2020, at Liza’s Place Valley Hospice in Wheeling WV.

 

She was predeceased by her husband Steve in 1979, her parents George and Anna Palinchak, her brothers Steve, Mike, George, Ed, and John, and her sisters Bertha Hanusiak, Margaret Torok, and Anna Palinchak.

 

Mary grew up on her parent’s farm in Bradley, graduated from Smithfield High School in 1944 and attended university in Pittsburg, PA, before returning to Bradley where she married Steve in 1946.  She worked at Welday’s Apple Orchard, and for Dr. Mario Mejia for many years.

 

Mary was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church where she served as the finance officer, taught Catechism and cared for the altar cloths. When Our Lady Queen of Peace closed, she attended St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Dillonvale, OH.

 

Mary enjoyed fabric crafting and baking.  Her baking was well known by neighbors, friends and family. Mary devoted her retirement years to spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She eagerly helped with many community, sporting and church events, including events at St. Lucy’s, and in 2011 the Steubenville Herald Star awarded her a star for her community service. Mary remained very active into her 90s, baking almost every day.

 

Mary is survived by her sister Helen Luch of Naples, FL, son Larry (Beverly), daughter Marilyn Kertoy Needham (Terry), daughter Jane Fetty (Bill); grandchildren Bud, Ashlee, Bevin, Brice, and Brock; great grandchildren Emma, Anna and Judah. Mary is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

Mary will be deeply missed by her family and extended family as she was the loving and caring matriarch of the family.

 

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will take place on Wednesday January 22 at 12 noon at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, St. Lucy Avenue, Yorkville, OH. Visitation from 11 a.m. til 12 noon. The Very Reverend Wm. Cross will celebrate and a luncheon will follow in the church hall.

 

Arrangements for Mary are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield, OH. In lieu of flowers, please consider offering a mass in Mary’s memory (stcadena@verizon.net) or making a contribution to the rosary making fund at St. Adalbert Church Dillonvale, OH. www.jefosterfh.com.
