Richard C. ‘Rich’ Burkey, 71, of Toronto, OH, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday Nov. 22, 2022. Rich had never fully recovered from covid he acquired in Oct. of 2021.
Rich was born Sept. 10, 1951, son of Jack C. and Mary H. ‘Etta’ (Rockey) Burkey.
After 31 years of service, Rich retired from the Weirton Steel Corp Railroad Dept. in 2002. He was a 1969 graduate of Toronto High School. Rich’s favorite past-time was walking, exercising, and yard work. He also loved rollercoasters and music of all kinds. He was an accomplished drummer who will be missed beyond words by his family.
In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by his two brothers, John, and Robert C. Burkey
Rich is survived by his wife, Brenda J. (Matthews) Burkey, whom he married June 28, 1978; two daughters, Stephanie Burkey and Alyssa Burkey and fiancé Dave Gaydos of Toronto; two grandsons, Kyle Lewis, and Kainen N. Burkey of Toronto; niece, Sharon Balvin and three nephews, Bryan, Robert, and Aaron Burkey.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12 noon to 3 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. Services and burial will be held at the convenience of his family.
