Shirley M. (Achhammer) Myers, 86, a resident of the Laurels of Steubenville, went to be with the love of her life, Karl E. Myers, on October 7, 2023.
Shirley was born August 2, 1937, in Steubenville, daughter of the late Russell E. and Margaret E. (Burchfield) Achhammer.
She was a homemaker who loved to cook great meals and make all kinds of cookies and cakes. She baked for many fundraisers and events at Wintersville Methodist Church.
Shirley worked for many years at Valley Eye Care for Dr. Milic in Steubenville.
She was a devoted member of the Wintersville Methodist Church. She sang in the choir, volunteered at many church functions, and attended many Woman Anew events with her mother Margaret.
In addition to her parents and husband Karl, Shirley was preceded in death by many relatives and too many friends to mention.
She leaves behind her son, David G. Myers of Mechanicsburg, PA, and her sister, Judy Wiley of Bloomingdale, OH.
Shirley, Karl and David took many summer trips to Florida, various parts of the U.S. and a trip to Canada. In their later years they also took trips to Alaska, Hawaii, New York City, and even Europe.
David sends a special thank you to the caregivers who took special care of his parents and his grandmother at their home and to everyone at the Laurels of Steubenville. Many special thanks to Sue Briggs for being there for Shirley for many surgeries, and to Catherine Bonham, Shirley’s roommate after Karl’s passing in 2022.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, Oct. 10 at the Wintersville Methodist Church from 12 noon to 2 pm followed by Shirley’s funeral service. Rev. Dr. Clint Quillen, Jr. will officiate, and a private burial will follow in the Union Cemetery in Steubenville.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Wintersville Methodist Church.
Arrangements for Shirley are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH.
