Walter Dean ‘Mac’ McKnight, 91, of Toronto, OH, passed away Friday Feb. 28, 2020 in the Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.
Dean was born March 21, 1928 in Toronto, son of the late Delbert and Bessie (Rawson) McKnight.
He worked at the former Steubenville Pottery for 10 years before going to work for the Weirton Steel Corp. for 33 years in the strip mill.
Dean was known for supporting the Edison Wildcats football team for the last 40 years. He was well known for the signs he displayed in his front yard.
Dean was instrumental in one of his family’s favorite annual events - the McKnight family reunion, which last year celebrated its 75th year.
Dean was a member of the Toronto American Legion Post #86 and he served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his brother, Jack McKnight.
Surviving is his wife of 70 years, Grace Marcella (Alban) McKnight, whom he married on July 11, 1949; his daughter, Linda Clifton of Toronto; his two sisters, Wilma Walker and Wanda (Kenny) Woodward both of Toronto, and his granddaughter, Lindsay Renee Clifton.
Visitation will be held Monday March 2, 2020 from 4 to 8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto where his Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 11 am. Rev. Kevin Rinkes will officiate and burial will follow in Island Creek Cemetery.
Military Honors will be presented at the funeral home by the Toronto American Legion Post #86.
